Am privileged to have this interview with CKDigital CEO

Charles Dairo
  1. Tell us a bit about your background. Where were you born?

I was born in Germany. My mum travelled there while she was pregnant with my twin sister and I. We were there for about 4 years before coming back to Nigeria.

  1. How was life growing up?

Some years after we got back to Nigeria, my parents got divorced. As a result, my 2 sisters and I lived in different homes, and attended a couple of schools. We finally ended up living with my mum and our stepdad in a big family of 9 kids in all. My stepdad took very good care of us, and we were quite comfortable.

  1. At what age in your life did you decide you wanted to go into IT?

Since I was a kid, I developed an interest in computers. I loved them and wanted to know how they worked. My love for computers grew even more when my stepdad bought a computer set for us kids to use at home. Once it was time to choose a course of study in the university, Computer Science was an easy choice.

4. How do you cope running a fast growing IT business?

Number one thing that keeps me going is the passion I have for what we do at CKDigital, that is, providing services, products and platforms that help people and businesses succeed. We also have a vision of becoming the world’s biggest digital agency.

  1. Is being a CEO a burden or a blessing or a bit of both?

Business isn’t for the fainthearted. It’s a lot of responsibility. Your decisions as a leader shape the lives of the people you lead, and also indirectly affect their dependents. The younger generation is looking up to us young entrepreneurs, and our lives inspire many. Running a business is a blessing in the sense that it’s an opportunity to impact our world directly. Business people create jobs and impact our economy. Being a business person also helps you grow as an individual and expands your capacity in many ways.

  1. What challenges have you had as an IT Entrepreneur?

The challenges I have faced aren’t unique. Most entrepreneurs face similar challenges – ensuring financial targets are met, keeping employees and customers happy, and more. In addition, as a digital agency, our business depends a lot on power and internet connectivity; two things that aren’t particularly great in Nigeria at the moment.

  1. In your opinion, what is the most difficult part about IT and Web Designing?

The IT industry is fast-paced. So many things are happening: new technologies, new tools, and better ways of doing things. One may become overwhelmed if care is not taken.

  1. What’s the weirdest thing a customer/ staff has ever told you?

One thing I have heard a number of times from small business owners, especially when we begin discussing costs is something similar to “I can actually do it myself…”, or “my younger brother can do it…”, or “I have a degree in Computer Science”. They generally try to play down the work thinking that would justify the low prices they are willing to pay. In such situations, I simply educate them on the value they will get from our services.

  1. You are confident and bold in business. Do you sometimes have the fear of the unknown?

No, I don’t have fear of the unknown. I think worrying is a waste of imagination. Whenever I have concerns, I think about the situation logically to come up with possible solutions. When it seems overwhelming, I pray about it. I also have a few people I speak to that give great and candid advice.

  1. Which other professional are you looking to work with or have something coming out with?

As a company, we have had the privilege of working with some notable brands, and would definitely welcome the opportunity to impact more global brands.

  1. If you had a chance to work with one person in the world, who would it be?

A number of people inspire me. If I had to pick one person, it would be Elon Musk.

  1. What are your top 3 points in your note or pad that you always reflect on?

Those would be Globalization, Value, and Impact.

  1. What advice would you give to unmotivated and non inspired people around the world. Please explain???

Find that thing you love, and don’t settle before then. Do what you’re passionate about. Passion keeps you motivated. Passion helps you endure. Also, as a wise person told me recently, “Don’t compare yourself with others. The grass may look greener on the other side, but it doesn’t mean it actually is. You just need to water your own.”

  1. What’s next for Charles Dairo

Growth – both personally and for CKDigital.

One thing I learned about this great man and leader is to “START”. Whatever you want to do in life, no matter how little it is. Have always included this in most of my articles. Even if you not yielding value at the moment, start from somewhere then your work will yield value and productivity.

The success of CKDigital is combined with hardwork, dedication, patient, and God’s intervention.

Thank you.
